Gateway to Anime is one of Australia’s premiere anime recommendation resources.
With such a vast amount of anime available and more new anime releasing every season, Gateway to Anime aims to be a trusted and reliable resource for discovering the best that anime has to offer.
Gateway to Anime strives to help people discover anime that they will love. Just like books or films, we believe that anime has something for everyone.
As members and voices in the anime community, we want to encourage positive and respectful discourse and help to welcome newcomers. We certainly aren’t experts, just fans who want more people to share our passion for anime!
MEET THE TEAM
Sam and Charlie are lifelong anime fans who discovered anime during the 1990’s, while anime was only just reaching Australia. After both graduating from one of Australia’s finest acting schools (WAAPA), they each pursued successful acting careers before learning production skills in the film, advertising and music industries.
As anime became truly mainstream during the COVID-19 pandemic, Sam and Charlie saw an opportunity to share their anime knowledge and performance expertise to help people discover everything that anime has to offer. With the help of good friend Graeme Aitken, they decided to create a podcast about anime with a focus on accessibility for newcomers, which they called Gateway to Anime.
Gateway to Anime has rapidly expanded beyond just a podcast, becoming one of one of Australia’s premiere anime recommendation resources and content creators.
EVENTS & COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT
We love connecting with anime fans at conventions and film screenings, which we have been attending for our whole lives. It's great to be a part of the anime community and it's a privilege to be given opportunities for live appearances with Gateway to Anime, such as panels and podcasts.
We also love filming these events and interviewing industry professionals, especially so that we can share these experiences with a wider online audience and promote these great anime events.

CULTURAL STATEMENT
As a Sydney based platform with an Australian team, we believe it’s important to acknowledge and respect cultural distinctions when covering anime. As a medium deeply rooted in Japanese history and culture, our perspective about anime is inherently limited and our opinions may not always be fully informed or correct.
While we are committed to transparency and continued learning regarding the cultural aspects of anime, our intent is to open a gateway for people to discover the medium for themselves rather than skewing it through our own cultural lensing.
We hope that our voice can be a conduit to the discovery of anime in all of its rich cultural nuance, providing a gateway of relatability for newcomers.
As a Sydney based platform we would also like to outline our position regarding the deep cultural history of the land that we operate on.
Gateway to Anime acknowledges that we work on the unceded sovereign lands of the Gadigal people of the Eora Nation. We pay our respects to their Elders past, present and future. We acknowledge the stories, traditions and living cultures of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples on this land and commit to building a brighter future together.
